Crafting Timeless Elegance
Built on Intention. Designed for You.
Maison Pavé was founded on a simple belief, that fine jewellery should be personal, responsible, and made to last a lifetime. We are a bespoke jewellery house specialising in lab-grown diamonds and custom design, bringing together old-world craftsmanship and a modern perspective on what luxury means today.
Every piece we create begins with a conversation, and ends with something entirely your own.
Lab Grown vs Natural Diamonds
Understanding Your Options
One of the questions we hear most often is: what actually is a lab-grown diamond, and how does it compare to a natural one? It's a great question, and we want to give you a genuinely honest answer,
Both are real diamonds. Both are beautiful. The differences come down to origin, price, and what matters most to you personally. Here's everything you need to know.
How Are They Different?
At a chemical and physical level, lab-grown and natural diamonds are identical. Both are pure carbon crystals. Both register a 10 on the Mohs hardness scale (the hardest rating possible). Both are cut, polished, and graded using exactly the same international standards by the same certification bodies, including GIA and IGI.
The difference is in how they were formed.
Natural diamonds were created deep within the earth, under extreme heat and pressure, over billions of years. They were then carried closer to the surface by volcanic activity and eventually mined. That geological journey is part of what gives them their sense of rarity and history.
Lab-grown diamonds are created in a facility that replicates those same conditions. Using one of two methods (High Pressure High Temperature, or Chemical Vapour Deposition), a diamond seed crystal is grown into a full stone over a matter of weeks. The process is scientific, precise, and the result is a diamond that is chemically indistinguishable from one formed in the earth.
A Side-by-Side Look
The Case for Lab-Grown
We work exclusively with lab-grown diamonds at Maison Pavé, and here is why we feel strongly about that.
Better value, genuinely. The price difference between a lab-grown and natural diamond of the same quality is significant, often 50 to 70%. That isn't because lab-grown diamonds are lesser. It's because they don't carry the overhead costs of industrial mining. What that means for you is that your budget goes further. You might choose a larger stone, a higher cut grade, or a more detailed setting that wouldn't have been possible otherwise.
Full transparency on sourcing. This is important to us. With lab-grown diamonds, we know exactly where every stone comes from. There is no ambiguity, no complex chain of custody to navigate. Every diamond we use is conflict-free without any caveats.
A more responsible footprint. Large-scale diamond mining has a significant environmental impact, from land clearing and water use to carbon emissions from heavy machinery. Lab-grown diamonds don't eliminate environmental impact entirely, but they reduce it substantially. For clients who care about where their materials come from and what they leave behind, that matters.
No difference you can see or feel. We want to be clear about this because it sometimes surprises people. A gemologist examining a lab-grown diamond with the naked eye cannot tell it apart from a natural diamond. Even with professional equipment, the distinction requires highly specialised testing. The brilliance, the fire, the sparkle — all of it is the same, because the diamond itself is the same.
